Blurb
Ruthless dragon king Ladon Ormarr must keep his throne at all costs. And now, with war on the horizon, he’ll need a miracle. Luckily, the fates have dropped Skylar Amon right into his lap.
Except he may have met his match.
The feisty Amon sister has no fear — of him or any other dragon shifter — is brash, doesn’t stick to protocols, and regularly offends his warriors and advisers.
Skylar also has no intention of sticking around. She doesn’t believe in the whole destined mates thing and believes all dragon kings to be dangerous. But if it means taking out the High King who murdered her parents, she’ll put up with Ladon… temporarily.
But the fates have other plans. And when Skylar disappears in the middle of a battle, Ladon will burn down the world to find her.
Review
In the book two of the Inferno Rising series, phoenix shifter Skylar Amon infiltrates the Blue Dragon Clan stronghold to confront her sister, Kasia, who’d mated Brand, the King of the Gold Clan. Even though she’s furious at Kasia for falling for a dragon, Skylar can’t deny her own instant attraction to another dragon, one who’s even more dangerous than her sister’s mate.
Ladon Ormarr, King of the Blue Clan, is fascinated with Skylar at first sight, but as soon as he learns she’s a phoenix, he’s determined to take her for his mate. Too bad for him, she’s more stubborn than he is. He needs to win her heart and trust, but with enemies all around them, they have to find common ground sooner rather than later, or everything could crash around them.
Wow. Ladon and Skylar are tough, kick-ass characters and fit each other perfectly. Neither are afraid of getting their hands dirty and going after what they want. He’s strong and determined as a king should be, but just soft enough to melt for a woman. At first, I wasn’t sure if I would like Skylar, but she wasn’t as coldhearted as I’d expected. She often put the well-being of other people first and proved she was a good person. She trusted Ladon a little too easily in my opinion, but I prefer it when the H/h get along to them arguing all the time.
I enjoyed this book more than I did the previous one (The Rogue King) since it continued the fight with the Gold Clan and delved more into the upcoming battle with the Red Clan.
I’m very interested to learn more about Airk, Samael, and Meira.
I like how Ms. Owen goes into the POV of multiple characters beyond the H/h (to give a well-rounded view of her universe from all angles), and she does so with proper chapter and scene breaks. Occasionally, I had to reread to figure out who was talking because the dialogue and/or action tags weren’t always clear, but that’s really my only complaint. This book was wonderful!
I’m eager to read the next one in the series, so stay tuned for the review.
