#BookReview: “Indigo” by Karen Hulene Bartell

Blurb

Reeling after her fiancé dumps her, Raluca Olson inherits a rustic cabin from an unknown relative. Eerie incidents and rumors of a mythical windigo alarm her, but she’s determined to learn the truth about her dysfunctional family before she flips the property.

Despite unscrupulous realtors, bloodthirsty prowlers, and a devious ex, her life improves with a rescued puppy, and passion ignites when she meets Dylan McCoombs, but…

What does a demonic half-beast share with a psychosis and porphyria? Are monsters born or formed? Nature or nurture? Is a windigo spirit genetic? More importantly, does she carry the gene?

Review

After her fiancé dumps her days before the wedding, Deluca Olson leaves town to renovate and flip an old cabin that she just inherited from a previously unknown relative, her great aunt Winnie. The repairs are more expensive than she bargained for, but luckily, local handyman Dylan McCoombs is pitching in and helping her out. Yet strange things and noises keep happening around the property. Add on a mysterious diary from another relative, Deluca is drawn into the past lives of her ancestors and a mystery that is just as dangerous now as it was back then.

Wow. This paranormal mystery kept me engaged from the start. The romance is slow burn and weaved intricately into the mystery, horror, and danger. Deluca and Dylan are so sweet together. The best part? The cute little puppy Deluca finds at a cemetery. I love stories with pets, and this pup was great.

Readers who love slow-burn paranormal romances, you’ll want to check out Indigo.
