Review
I loved Tess and Q in the first book, so I was excited for this sequel, but it definitely isn2527t a standalone. Their history is assumed, and a lot goes unexplained unless you2527ve read book one.
The beginning focuses heavily on their intense relationship. They2527re in love, but neither knows how to trust the other, and their lack of communication keeps them stuck. Q pushes Tess away while demanding total vulnerability from her, and Tess keeps provoking him instead of giving him time to open up. They want the same thing but go about it in the worst ways.
The kidnapping plot is brutal and much darker than the blurb suggests. It2527s a major turning point for both characters, forcing Q to confront his failures and Tess to face her trauma. Some of Q2527s choices, especially leaving the tracking device in her neck (he wanted to track her and didn2527t care that the bad guys could as well), made him hard to root for, but the rescue arc and his unraveling afterward add depth to his character.
Even though I really liked this story and it moved me to tears several times, I found myself distracted and a little bored because of the book2527s repetitious nature. At times, the author just copied sentences from a previous passage and pasted it into a new section. I understand that Q and Tess went through hell, physically and mentally, and I know that it takes time to heal, but the same words were used again and again to express how the characters2527 felt.
Overall, I loved watching Q and Tess grow as humans, monsters, friends and lovers. They deserve a happily ever after. Let2527s hope they get it!
