#BookReview: “Fractured” by Zelly Jordan

Blurb

I am many things.

A man. A soldier. Trained to kill. Born to hunt. Focused and lethal. Nothing gets through the stoic control that hides my inner animal, an animal that simmers with rage and power.

And that power makes me the perfect assassin.

My first task – eliminate the vile head of a science lab responsible for creating and distributing a cruel mutation. Easy.

And almost done when suddenly she invades my world. Charlotte – petite, beautiful and sexy as hell – a cop who claims a past with me that I don’t remember. At all.

Suddenly she’s everywhere, interfering, asking too many questions, endangering herself and my mission and pushing buttons I didn’t know I had. A dangerous distraction.

My beast is captivated but suspicious, torn between wanting to sink teeth into her and . . . wanting to sink teeth into her. My body craves her.

But . . . I don’t remember her. I don’t trust her. And I don’t trust myself around her.

Who is she? Is she lying? And do I have enough control to not be blinded by her? To protect my secrets and uncover hers?

And who pays the price?

Review

While on a secret mission, the last thing Kellan expects is to be shot full of tranquilizers and kidnapped. Charlotte and her friend Finn claim they know him, that she’s his girlfriend. Only, he doesn’t remember them. From juggling his growing feelings for Charlotte, his shapeshifting inner beast, and dealing with his mysterious commanding officer, Kellan is determined to get to the truth.

This was an interesting book. It’s told in first person from Kellan’s perspective only. I would’ve liked to have read from Charlotte’s POV, but I got to know her well enough from Kellan’s. The H/h had amazing chemistry. I love over-the-top alpha males!

Be warned, there’s a major cliffhanger, which should’ve been stated at the beginning of the book or in the product blurb since some readers hate them. I’m one of them. The book doesn’t feel finished. Even with cliffhangers, there’s usually some sort of resolution. Not so with this book. It feels like the story was cut in half in the middle of an action scene.

Even though I liked the story, it needs a proofread to fix lots of tagline and punctuation errors. Words like “sir” and “soldier” are capitalized when they shouldn’t have been. In one instance, both “pricey” and “pricy” are used in the same sentence. The lengthy internal monologues slow the pacing a lot.

Even though these issues were distracting, the story itself is still good. I’m curious to know what will happen to Kellan and Charlotte in the next book, so I’ll have to check it out.
