Blurb
The cousin of the High King, Lyndi Chandali has lived with the constant threat of being pawned off as a political prize. A rare, female-born dragon like Lyndi can’t truly mate—not in the way it counts. Which is why she’s kept her distance from a certain sinfully delicious Beta. Instead, she’s built a life for herself giving orphaned dragons in the Americas a home.
As Beta of his team of enforcers, Levi Rowtag is a fighter first, last, and always. His job is to protect—his team, the shifters in his territory, and the stubborn woman hell-bent on fighting with him at every turn. He knows from the moment they first meet what she’ll never accept—they are destined to be mated.
But with the kings at war, the enemy is now coming for Lyndi. Worse, he’s coming for her orphans, too. He’ll have no choice but to defy his king and go rogue if he has any hope of protecting them all…and finally claiming his mate.
Review
In the fifth book in the Fire’s Edge series, dragon shifter and Huracan enforcer Levi Rowtag desires fellow shifter Lyndi more than anything, but she doesn’t want anything to do with him. After the king of the Gold Clan orders him to return home, he has no choice but to leave the brewing war on the home-front to go overseas and fight in that war. But worst of all, he has to leave Lyndi behind.
Lyndi Chandali is a rare female dragon shifter and seen as a second-class citizen among her people. Instead of following the traditional roles set for female-born, she is working with the Huracans as an enforcer and is running a home for young orphaned dragons. Though she secretly loves Levi, she can’t be a proper mate to him, so she continuously pushes him away.
WOW! Lyndi and Levi are so meant to be together. Both characters are strong, flawed, stubborn, and so in love they can’t think straight. Their union was a beautiful thing to see.
Finn and Delaney, Drake and Cami, Deep, Rune, all the other guys, and even Aiden and Sera returned. Some of Lyndi’s orphaned boys got a good amount of page time, which I enjoyed. I really love how this series keeps the secondary cast strong and how they complement the main characters.
Even though the story is well-written, the telepathic dialogue wasn’t italicized sometimes, and there’s an inconsistency that had me rereading (at 21%, Lyndi stated she had never taken human lovers, and then at 52%, she had taken human lovers).
Whenever I read a book from this series, I swear hands-down I prefer this series to the spin-off, Inferno Rising. But when I read an Inferno book, I swear that’s my fav series. So really, these are just great books no matter how you spin it. I can’t wait to read more!
