#BookReview – “Damned if You Do” by Lisabet Sarai

Blurb

Sometimes romance can be hell.

Wendy Dennison is tired of being a starving author. The royalties from her critically acclaimed romance novels barely pay her bills. Her devoted agent Daniel Rochester may be smart and sexy, but he can’t get her the sales she needs. Then a charismatic stranger appears at her coffee shop table, promising her fame and commercial success, as well as the chance to live out her dreams of erotic submission. But at what cost?

Nothing you can’t afford to lose, my dear.

Seduced by the enigmatic Mister B, she signs his infernal contract. He becomes both her Master and her coach, managing her suddenly flourishing career as well as encouraging her lusts. Under her mentor’s nefarious influence, she surrenders to temptation and has sex with Daniel. The casual encounter turns serious when she discovers her mild mannered agent has a dominant side. As the clock ticks down to her blockbuster release and Mister B prepares to claim her soul, Wendy must choose either celebrity and wealth, or obscurity and true love.

Review

Wendy Dennison is a struggling erotic BDSM romance author, though she has a wonderful agent and a decent following. She longs for fame and stardom, so when a suave, sexy man approaches her in a coffee shop with a decadent offer, she can’t refuse it. All her dreams are about to come true—at the price of her soul.

I’m sure this story will hit home for a lot of authors. It would be so tempting to agree to anything to reach your goals and have your heart’s desire, but sometimes, the cost is just too great.

Wendy was a very relatable heroine. The steamy scenes between Wendy and Mister B, the demon who contracted her soul, were scorching! I wish there had been more scenes with Dan, her agent and lover, but this story was more about Wendy and her journey through self-discovery than her finding love. Don’t get me wrong. She finds love and gets a well-deserved HEA, but this book has stronger flavors of “women’s fiction” than “romance.”

This is an awesome book for readers who love eroticism, BDSM, the supernatural, and happily ever afters. Highly recommended!
