#CharacterInterview: “Just What the Doctor Hired” by Nelson Potter

Today, we have the heroine from Nelson Potter’s new book, Just What the Doctor Hired, in the hotseat. She’s here to discuss her life and love, so let’s jump into the questions.

What’s your name, and who are you in your world?

Autumn Haze, I’m a nursing student living in Seattle. I work at the Seattle Ferries as a tollbooth worker and moonlight as a Plus One companion.

Interesting! Give us a visual. What do you look like?

I’d like to think I look like Nina Dobrev. I have dark hair and brown eyes with petite features, just not the vampire boyfriends.

Team Damon, all the way. LOL. What time period and location does your story take place?

My story takes place in the current timeline. And as I said before, I live in Seattle.

How would you describe your life?

My life is hectic. Between studying for my Bachelor of Nursing degree, working as a toll booth operator, and my Plus One contracts on the weekends, I barely have room to breathe.

You sound super busy. What did you think the first time you saw Jensen?

Thankfully, when I first met Dr. Jensen Edwards in person, I was sitting down because he made my knees go weak. He’s drop-dead gorgeous, and the more I talked to him, I realized he was a great conversationalist, and a huge Orca’s fan, just like me.

Oh, I bet he’s gorgeous with a name like Jensen. LOVE that name. What is your family like?

I was adopted as a newborn by two wonderful men—Dad and Papi. Their personalities are oil and water, but somehow, they make the magic work. I’m so grateful for them.

That’s wonderful! Tell us three things we’d find if we looked under your bed?

People look under their beds? I haven’t checked there in years; there could be a troll squatting there for all I know.

Haha. Dust bunnies are under mine. 😉 Who was the biggest role model in your life?

I actually have two role models, Dad and Papi. Dad because he’s driven, goal-oriented, and focused. Papi because he’s creative, fearless, and a hopeless romantic.

Wonderful. Thank you so much for visiting!

Blurb:

Student Autumn Haze’s motto is: no men until she completes her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Years before, Autumn learned the hard way men are just a distraction she can’t afford until she’s established her career and what she wants. While moonlighting as a Plus One companion pays the bills, she struggles to follow her rules after meeting her newest contract. Pediatric Hospitalist Jensen Edwards is still recovering from a bad breakup that left him the talk of the hospital. Now he’s receiving a Best Doctor’s award, but after he hires Autumn as his plus one, Jensen is on edge. If word gets out that he hired a companion, rumors are bound to circulate, making work unbearable—again. Their chemistry as a fake couple is undeniable, but can a chance at a real relationship override their fear of commitment?

Excerpt:

Jensen leaned forward, his lips rasping against my ear. “Make me look good¾she’s watching.”

I shook, an involuntary shiver running down my neck and into my spine. This will be fun. “You got it.” I licked my lips, slow and seductive, before wrapping my arms around his neck, my hips pressed against him, and swayed to the beat.

Jensen’s hands slid down my waist.

I felt his fingers dig into my skin, and I couldn’t stop my heart from racing. Jensen’s performance had me coiled like a spring, ready to jump at any moment. If Kayla was watching, she couldn’t deny my chemistry with Jensen. I chanced a glance. The woman’s deep scowl and curled lip was all the answer I needed. A+ for Jensen’s performance. “She looks furious.”

“Good.”
