New Interview with Bernadette. Thanks for stopping by. Let’s get started…
Why did you decide to write romance novels?
I’ve been hooked on romance since the day I found my grandmother’s Georgette Heyer book, Black Sheep. I also love mysteries and figuring out who did the dastardly deed before the book finishes. Once I realized I wanted to be a writer, it was inevitable that I would become a romantic suspense author.
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
As a romance reader, I have always believed that romance novels have the power to teach and heal.
Romance writers can be brave and daring. Our stories explore love and hate. We traverse hardships and untethered successes. Our characters may rise up from humble beginnings to become the newest millionaire, or lose everything, becoming homeless. Through their achievements and losses, we take a trip of emotional discovery. The reader learns that hope is the great equalizer, that faith in ourselves can lead to opportunities we may never have expected. We teach about life, healing and love.
We do that by drawing on our own stockpile of experiences or by holding witness to the trials and victories of friends and family. Writers, whether intentionally or subliminally, cannot help but share what we have experienced or witnessed through others.
Which comes first, the story, the characters, or the setting?
All the above. Every book I have ever written has come to me as if a movie reel randomly starts playing a scene in my head. Then my job begins…Who? What? Where? When? Why?
I’ll give you an example. One night I woke up and a scene began to play in my head of a tall dark-haired man dressed in grey sweatpants standing on a muddy shoreline looking down at the naked body of a young strawberry blonde woman. I could tell he knew her by the anguish in his eyes. This was the birth of Sleepin’ Alone, my first book for the Aspen Gold series.
What inspired you to write this particular book, Lonely Eyes?
We first met the hero from Lonely Eyes in Sleepin’ Alone and he made more appearances in Stay A Little Longer. Honestly, he would not leave me alone. The heroine had been in my head since the Aspen Gold Series had been conceived. One night I had that ‘duh’ moment when I realized Owen was the perfect hero for Keira. I can’t say more, you will understand when you read the book.
There is an art to pursuit.
Keira is running out of time. The handsome stranger with the dragon tattoo says he can keep her safe, but he doesn’t know the demon on her trail… Will her mysterious past lead her to escape or drag her back to living hell?
Owen Strong has suffered tragedy, but he’s made a new family in Spencer, Colorado—one he will protect at all costs. When he finds determined Keira HoaThi, she rouses more than just trouble. Looking into her lonely eyes, he sees that everyone’s in danger.
But she’s come to the right place. He’s the monster hunter.

Romantic Suspense Writer, Never Give Up-er,
First Wives Club-er, Lifelong Dream Achiever & Mom
Bernadette Jones has been making up stories since she learned to read on her daddy’s lap. She has imagined casts of characters everywhere she’s called home: Texas, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Massachusetts, and now New York.
Books and music filled her life as she, her dad and two brothers traveled the country. She would sit in the back seat of the car—her older brother always got to ride shotgun—listening to the current music on the radio, looking out the window and spinning a story based on a phrase she’d heard in the lyrics. As you can imagine, traveling the country, the music changed from state to state, as did the stories. To this day, she enjoys a wide variety of music and book genres.
After a career in corporate writing, she’s decided to settle down and put pen to paper doing what she loves. Living the dream in her NYC apartment with her canine companion, she’s bringing her stories and characters to life.
About the series:
Aspen Gold The Series is a unique continuity series where the town and its founder are the thread tying all stories together. Bernadette Jones’s books are all standalone, with characters you’ve met making guest appearances, or perhaps taking the limelight. Recommended for mature adults 18+, due to language, violence, sex and subjects that may be difficult for some readers.
“If you like your romance with a lot of suspense and a hefty dose of steam, then Lonely Eyes—or really anything by Bernadette Jones—is for you. Jones has an uncanny knack for painting her scenes with an urgency that has the reader at the edge of their seat. Every time I pick up one of her books, I’m sucked immediately into the action and the pages just fly by. Her characters are believably flawed, grow beautifully, and the bedroom scenes are turn-the-fan-on hot.”
