Recalling his role in this game, he nodded, accepting the words at face value. “That’d be a welcome treat after the dusty roads I’ve traveled.” Offering his best smile, he studied the lady’s perfect features. If she was Kesia’s sister, all his troubles would be over. And the next few moments were crucial to gain her trust. According to his informants, if she selected him as her partner for the duration of the party, his plan for their escape would be that much easier.

Smile beaming, the lady stepped closer. The sweet fragrance of honeysuckles filtered through his senses. Did she crush the delicate petals against her skin or sprinkle the pollen in her hair? But the true mystery was, where could she find the flowers at this time of year? Did she use some type of magic?

“Your stipend? Have you dropped it off for tomorrow’s game?” She laid her manicured hand on his arm. The dainty touch sent sparks of awareness through him, and his loins swelled with need. “The governor likes to have all the money in his strongbox for safekeeping before the party gets rowdy with other pursuits.”

Distracted by the infinite possibilities of pleasure, he reined in his more lustful practices and refocused on his primary purpose—to transport the lady back to Ardenia. “Lucky me, let me show you to the study and fetch you a drink.” After gliding a soothing caress over his forearm, she led the way back into the foyer.

Bowing his head a tad, he played the unfamiliar part of a refined gentleman. “And you are?”

With an almost shy flutter of her hand, she brushed a wisp of light brown hair from her brow. “The governor calls me, Kitty. It’d probably be best if you did, too.”

“What an alluring name? It makes me think of a cat with its lips covered by a luscious coat of cream.” Staring at her mouth, his tongue tingled at the idea of tasting her flavorful lust.

A soft giggle escaped before she wove her hand through the crook of his arm, brushing her divine breast against his bicep, gifting him with a bewitching sample of her plush curves. “Oh, but you’re so naughty, but I love the alluring image.”

“Then I hope you’ll let me have a taste later.” Not following his regular habit of crowding a willing woman up against a nearby wall and stealing a kiss, he instead stepped back and enjoyed the enthralling sway of her elegant figure, as she led him across the foyer, thus refusing his natural inclination to take any liberties.

Remember, she’s a princess.
