#CharacterInterview – “Sudden Death” by Ann Raina

We’re doing something a little different today. Instead of the hero or heroine stopping in for a visit, a secondary character from Ann Raina’s latest hot romance is here with the low down on life, dreams, and being who you are.

What’s your name, and who are you in your world?

My name’s Lesly Gilbert – Les for my friends, and I’m Jacklyn Hollander’s best friend, have been with her for roughly ten years. I’m the one she turns to share good things, but she also calls me when there’s trouble. Yeah, I’m a bit of a trouble shooter when things go wrong. I’m not into cooking, but Jacky says that I can be counted on to find the best places to hang out—for us or for us and our lovers. You should know that Jacky’s in love with FBI Agent Nicolas Hayes. A fine guy, if you ask me, despite his job. He’s also Jacky’s sub. Oh, did I mention that? Jacky and I are mistresses, and I run an exclusive dungeon in DC.

Awesome! I wouldn’t mind a tour of your dungeon. 😉 Give us a visual. What do you look like?

I’m of South African heritage—dark-skinned, brown-eyed, with curly black hair. I’m only five feet three inches and slim, but I’m stronger than I look. Friends say that I don’t look my thirty-eight years, but that’s for them to judge. I take care of myself, do a lot of sports and yoga, so, yes, I’m in a good shape.

Yoga is so relaxing, but I don’t do it often enough. What time period and location does your story take place?

Present time. We’ve got all the fun stuff you need—from cell phones to electronic gear for…you know what.

I can imagine! How would you describe your life?

I had a difficult childhood, a dangerous one. But I made my way out and learned that I can achieve anything I want if I follow my goals with enough determination. That’s why I became a mistress. I’m good at what I do. And with Raiden Strout I found the right man to share my life with. Right now, I’m as happy as I could be.

How would you describe yourself in a personal ad?

Oh, that’s a good question. Mistress for hire, will spank you as much as you want, arouse you endlessly, and you will like it.

Haha! I’d hire you. What skill do you have that you’re proud of? Why?

I cannot only judge men the moment they enter my dungeon, I can also tell you what they prefer or dislike. I read them. That’s why the men trust me when they come to me. They know they’ll get a spanking but also satisfaction. Since this…ability is the reason that my business is prospering, I’m quite proud of what I achieved in such little time.

Good for you. What was your dream growing up? Did you achieve that dream?

When I was little, I dreamed of being strong enough to defend myself. That was my only goal. Then I grew up and met a mistress in Philadelphia, who inspired and then trained me. She saw my potential. I’m a dominant person, and I work in a job that fits my personality. So, yes, I achieved my dream even though I didn’t know that it was one in the first place.

Tell us three things we’d find if we looked under your bed?

Ah, well…since this should stay PG-13, I better not tell. I don’t want readers to get a wrong impression…<turns away, laughing>

Fair enough, but my imagination is whirling with possibilities! Thank you so much for visiting today.

Author: Ann Raina
Book Title: Sudden Death (#9 in the series with Nick and Jacklyn)

Blurb:

As the kidnapper pulled him forward again, Anderson feared he would stumble and break his neck. He tried to figure out the man’s motivation. Was he a fan gone mad? A total nutcase who had accidentally chosen Ginger and himself as his daily victims? Or was it no accident?

Anderson Wright just wants to play hockey, but a criminal kidnaps and tries to kill him while he’s vacationing with his girlfriend in the Monongahela Forest National Park. He survives due to FBI Agent Nicolas Hayes’s courageous actions that save his life. The motive and the resources of the attempted murder remain a mystery.

While the team of FBI agents investigate, three young and talented hockey players are brutally killed, just as they were on the cusp of starting great careers. Public pressure on the agents mounts as all hockey players and their crews fear that the killer will strike again. Still, the murderer leaves the crime scenes without tangible clues to his identity.

On a private level, Nicolas faces his mistress’s growing demands for their love life and has to decide whether to follow her kinky wishes or deny her desires.

Teaser: You can only have fun if others let you.

Excerpt:

The fear for Wright’s life spurred Nicolas into action. He would not forgive himself for any delay, and he had no excuse for losing ground. Panting hard, he climbed across a small assembly of rocks.

Nicolas cried out when lightning struck a pine tree near him and broke away a part of the trunk with several large branches, twigs, and autumn leaves. The following thunder took his breath away, and the breakaway of half the tree trunk was louder than the liftoff of a jet plane. Blinded and stunned, Nicolas staggered to the side, missed a step, and knew the moment he slipped that he was unable to stop his fall. He crashed his shoulder and chest against a trunk and flailed his arms to keep his balance, but it was already too late. A branch of the falling treetop flung over his face faster than he could raise his arms. The impact hurt but then he was on his butt, slipping downhill in the mud, slipping faster and faster, hoping he wouldn’t hit a trunk and break a leg. Above him, the scorched tree crashed to the ground, reverberating through the soil like an earthquake. Nicolas couldn’t see where he was sliding and missed a boulder by sheer luck. Breathless, he tried to reach out, find a hold, but his slide only ended at the bottom of the hill. He was stunned and didn’t move, fearing that the pain in his head and sides would knock him out.

For a minute, he felt immobilized. He was lying with his face in the soil, gasping, spluttering dirt, cursing lightning and rain. Assessing the injuries, Nicolas thanked the patron watching over poor FBI agents in the woods that he was still alive.
