#CharacterGuestPost – “Note by Note” by Stella Ann George

Note by Note – Jessica Turner2527s Top 10 Classical Pieces

As a music teacher, it2527s hard to choose favorites among the vast catalog of beautiful classical music. But here are my top 10 pieces I listen to on a regular basis. Finn has even grown to like some of them.

Rachmaninoff – Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini – one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, featured in the movie Somewhere in Time starring Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve, yes, I am a hopeless romantic, but now that I2527ve found Finn, I am a hopeful romantic

Stravinsky – The Nightingale – the story of The Nightingale is one of my favorites, I used it in the children2527s symposium and, as it turns out, it was key to solving the mystery Finn and I were trying to solve

Smetana – The Moldau – the piece represents the famous Vltava River from beginning to end, 267.4 miles long, an area of 10,850 square miles, a third of the Czech Republic2527s entire area and over half of Bohemia

Bizet – Carmen – dramatic and tragic

Bach – Toccata and Fugue in D minor – Halloween and haunted mansions

Debussy – Clair de lune and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and his Children2527s Corner Suite – I played a lot of Debussy at my recitals, many of the pieces from his Children2527s Corner Suite – always loved them

Mozart – Twelve Variations on “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman” – I played this for a recital in my teen years and afterward, someone remarked to me that they felt sorry for me that I had to play something so simple, until she heard all of the variations

Holst The Planets – he perfectly captures the vastness of our solar system

Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker Suite – perfect for the holidays

Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata – a joy whether you are playing or listening

Note by Note was originally published on Kindle Vella as a serial story. It is a slow burn romantic suspense, about 2.5 on the spicy scale.

Blurb:

For Finn Cooper, being a billionaire has the usual perks – fine dining, jet setting around the world, and beautiful women. However, no woman is going to break through his wall; he won2527t allow himself to be that vulnerable again. But when the plane he is piloting crashes, an independent and capable woman leaves him questioning all he thought he knew about love.

For Jessica Turner, a fateful flight from Sydney to Tasmania turns her world upside down. Surviving in an isolated cabin with a well-known playboy is just the beginning of a journey that tosses the music teacher out of her safe, secure life. Falling for his charm is easy; guarding her heart is another matter.

In a search for answers about their mysterious circumstances, Finn and Jessica find themselves in an increasingly dangerous world neither of them could have imagined. Staying one step ahead of deadly outside forces makes falling in love a little … complicated.

Excerpt:

She pulled back. “Want to tell me what2527s bothering you? It2527s apparent there2527s something serious.”

“I … this isn2527t the right time. I think we could both use a good night2527s sleep.”

“Hey, it2527s okay. You can tell me anything,” she echoed his earlier words.

“It2527s nothing.”

“It2527s something if it2527s enough to interfere with tonight.”

“We2527re talking about spending the night together.”

Jessica frowned. “You seemed perfectly fine with it before. You said all I had to do was say the word. What changed?”

She stepped away from him. “Oh no, this can2527t be happening.” She poured herself a splash of brandy and gulped it as Finn had done earlier. “Not again. I2527ve spent the entire evening trying to seduce you, and I2527ve made a total fool of myself. You don2527t want to make love to me at all. It2527s like Tim said. I2527m a cold fish.”

“No, no, nothing could be further from the truth.”

“Then what is it? I mean, I understand what happened when we were in the cabin. Neither one of us was ready then. But now? We2527re in a whole different place. I love you.”

Realization dawned. “That2527s it, isn2527t it? I2527ve scared you off.” She began to pace the room. “Finn, I only told you I love you because I wanted you to know how important tonight is … was … to me. How important you are to me.” She walked back to him. “I didn2527t tell you because I expected anything in return. You don2527t have to say it back. There are no strings, no promises. I just want to be with you.”

“I can2527t. Not tonight.”

“You mean not ever.”

“That2527s not true.”

“Sure it is, Finn. You2527ve made love to plenty of women even when you haven2527t been in love with them. But for some reason, I am an exception.”

“It2527s not you; it2527s me.”

Jessica’s hurt was turning to anger. “Did you just give me that old break up line?”

“No, of course not! I2527m trying to explain what2527s happening here.”

“There2527s nothing happening. That2527s the problem. You have no idea how nervous I2527ve been all day, how hard this has been, knowing you2527ve been with other women much more experienced than I am. How worried I2527ve been that I would disappoint you.”

Finn reached out to touch her face. “You could never disappoint me.”

Jessica searched his eyes. “Then what is it, Finn? I don2527t understand.”

“I2527m not ready. I thought I was, but … I need some space. We both need some space. This is an important decision.”

“Important decision? This isn2527t a business merger. We2527re talking about two people who care about each other making love.”

Jessica2527s anger was getting the best of her. “Why don2527t you tell me the truth instead of all these excuses? You were more than ready before Hannah and Ethan showed up.”

She began to pace again. “I2527m sorry. If you2527ve changed your mind, I can accept that. But I would at least like an explanation.”

“I don2527t want to hurt you, Jess. But my past keeps catching up with me. I need some time. I2527m not sure …”

“Not sure what?”

“That I can return your feelings,” he admitted.
