#BookReview – “Hunted at Whiteford Farm” by Blye Donovan

Blurb

She wanted fresh air but will it cost her life to get it?

Blair O’Rourke is a criminal defense lawyer who has written off men. She sets out on a road trip to forget the last one she was involved with and finds herself hunted by someone he has sent after her. Stranded in the small town of Rolling Brook, will she trust another man to keep her safe, and can she stop herself from falling for him in the process?

Not one to refuse someone in need of help, especially when Blair has no one else to turn to, local farmer Jake Redland becomes entangled in the same trouble she brought with her from Chicago. He has no problem risking life and limb to keep her safe, but, having been burned by love once, will he risk the flames again for another city woman?

Review

In book 1 in The Rolling Brook series, lawyer Blair O’Rourke needs time away after a bad break-up with her boyfriend, so she leaves Chicago for the countryside. Then someone tries to run her down with a car. Luckily for her, a sexy farmer comes to her rescue.

Jake Redland is smitten with Blair, despite his failed long-term relationship with another city gal. Blair is the last type of woman he should go. That doesn’t stop him from wanting to help her, especially since her trouble seems to have something to do with the land developer who wants his homestead. With their problems intertwined, they’ll have to work together alongside his cop brother to solve the mystery and somehow stay alive.

I listened to the audio and enjoyed it. The story only takes place during a couple of days, so Blair and Jake fell hard and fast. The H/h had great chemistry and respect for each other. I’d give this book 3 flames for the heat rating, which was a nice break from the usual hotter stories that I read.

Leah Carr did an excellent job with the narration. She imbued excitement, danger, and sensuality with her voice and brought the characters to life.

Readers who love a good suspense romance should give this book a try.
